Man missing in Dunedin (+PHOTO)

Dunedin Police are appealing for sightings of 59-year-old Trevor Pont who has been missing since early this morning in the Wakari area. Mr Pont was last seen leaving Wakari Hospital grounds at around 6am this morning. He was later observed walking down City Road towards town.

Name release, Kinloch fatal

Police can now release the name of the motorcyclist who died following the crash on Whangamata Road, Kinloch near Taupo on Saturday January 20. He was 65 year old Mark Frecklington from Auckland. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.

Appeal for witnesses, Winton assault

Attribute to Detective Regan Fahey Winton Police are appealing for witnesses following a reported assault on the corner of Park and Prince Street on Monday (January 22). Anyone who was in the area at around 6.30pm and saw an altercation between two males is being urged to contact Winton Police on (03) 236 606 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Fire at Domain Road property, Lake Hawea

At approximately 11:20am Police were called to assist with a fire in a non-mobile house bus used as a dwelling on a rural property on Domain Road, Lake Hawea. Fire and Emergency NZ have put the blaze out and located possible human remains within the dwelling however, this is yet to be confirmed by a forensic pathologist. Police and Fire will carry out a scene examination tomorrow morning.

Update: Body found at Awatoto identified

Police have today completed the formal identification of the body found on Awatoto Beach on Friday 19 January. 
 
We can now confirm that it is missing 32-year-old French man Pierre Antoine Paludet. 
 
Mr Paludet’s family has been advised and arrangements will be made to return him home to them.

Test your children’s road safety knowledge before school starts back

As kids head on back to school next week we want parents to take the time to check they’re up to speed with road safety.
 
“The summer holidays are long and that means some children might have forgotten some of the basic rules they need to follow to keep themselves safe,” says Inspector Peter McKennie, Manager of Operations for Road Policing.
 
“Add to that their excitement about returning to school and seeing their friends and this can mean they will be less alert to the traffic dangers around them.

Update: Fatal Dunedin house fire

Police and Fire and Emergency NZ are today continuing to examine the scene of a fatal fire on Wesley Street, Dunedin. 
 
ESR is providing assistance at the scene also.
 
We expect to be able to remove the bodies of the deceased from the house this afternoon, and post mortems will be done tomorrow.

Fatal crash, Rerewhakaaitu, Bay of Plenty

At 6:53pm tonight Police were called to a crash between a car and a logging truck on Ash Pit Road, Rerewhakaaitu, Bay of Plenty. The driver of the car has died at the scene. The truck driver was uninjured in the crash. The Police Serious Crash Unit is investigating and while a scene examination is carried out Ash Pit Road, between Republican and Rerewhakaaitu Roads, will be closed.

Appeal for information following assault, Wanaka

Attribute to Detective Alan Lee Wanaka Police are appealing for sightings of black Mazda ute following an assault at Puzzling World on Saturday afternoon (20 January). At around 3.30pm three men assaulted an Australian tourist when he intervened in what appeared to be a racially targeted verbal altercation.

Police continuing enquiries into Panmure incidents

Please attribute to Detective Inspector Aaron Pascoe, Auckland City Police Police are continuing to investigate two incidents over the weekend on Tripoli Rd, Panmure which resulted in a number of people being injured. Police increased patrols in the area last night and there were no incidents of note overnight.

Serious crash near Masterton

Diversions are being put in place on Castlepoint Road, Te Ore Ore, near Masterton following a serious crash this evening. A car has collided with a power pole just before 8:20pm, about 1km north of the intersection with Masterton Stronvar Road. Two people are injured, one seriously and one critically, and were being transported to hospital.

Investigation into Panmure incidents

Please attribute to Detective Inspector Aaron Pascoe Police are continuing to investigate two incidents on Tripoli Road, Panmure. In the early hours of Saturday a car struck a group of people. Later that day, before midnight, three people were attacked at a house.

Drugs, guns and cash found at Te Atatu property

A 48-year-old Te Atatu man is facing a number of charges after a significant amount of cash, weapons and methamphetamine were found at a property in Te Atatu Peninsula yesterday. 
 
Police were initially called shortly before 11am yesterday, to reports of two men fighting with golf clubs at a Te Atatu address. 
 
On attendance, police observed drugs at the address and therefore conducted a full search of the property.

UPDATE – Fatal crash in Alexandra

Attributable to Senior Sergeant Ian Kerrisk, Alexandra Police: Police can confirm an 86-year-old woman was the victim in a fatal crash in Alexandra this afternoon. The crash between a Mini and a Nissan 4X4 happened at the intersection of Clutha Road and Ventry Road, just before 12:50pm.

Update on search for missing Frenchman

Hawke’s Bay Police continue to investigate the disappearance of 32-year-old Frenchman, Pierre Antoine Paludet, who was last seen a week ago. Based on enquiries so far Police believe Mr Paludet and his vehicle were likely in the carpark from Wednesday 10 January 2018. He was last seen in the carpark early in the evening on Friday 12 January. [Photos attached] Mr Paludet was sleeping in his vehicle and cooking in the area around his car. Local residents had noticed a build-up of rubbish and his car seemingly abandoned, leading to the call to Police on the afternoon of Saturday 13 January.

Serious crash in Whanganui

Police and other emergency services are at the scene of a serious crash in Whanganui where a truck has hit a pedestrian. The crash happened at the intersection of Hinau Street and Mosston Road in Castlecliff at 11.13am. The Serious Crash Unit has been called out and the road is closed.

Police seek Shannon Watene

Police are seeking Shannon Watene who is wanted for a warrant to arrest for driving related offences and failing to appear yesterday at the Manukau District court. We would also like to speak to him about other matters.

Crash on SH3, near New Plymouth

Traffic is being diverted off Mountain Road (SH 3) at Tariki, near New Plymouth, following a crash between two vehicles. Emergency services were notified at 4:47pm. The drivers of each vehicle have been taken to Taranaki Hospital in a serious condition. One driver was trapped for a time and freed by Fire and Emergency NZ.

Arrests made following aggravated robbery of Napier pizza driver

Police have arrested three youths in relation to the aggravated robbery of a pizza delivery driver in the Quality Inn carpark, Hastings Street, Napier on Sunday 14 January. Three males aged 13, 14 and 15 have been arrested. The 14-year-old and 15-year-old were charged with aggravated robbery and are now before the Hastings Youth Court. The 13-year-old has been referred to Youth Aid. The victim is recovering well from this attack and has a good group of friends supporting him.

Aggravated robbery in Meremere, Waikato – offenders required to be located

At about 11.30 this morning 18 January, two men entered the Meremere Superette and Takeaways, carrying knives.
They verbally threatened the victim (the shop keeper) and his daughter and demanded money and cigarettes to be handed over.
A struggle between the victim and the offenders broke out causing the victim to suffer several lacerations after receiving blows to his forearms and head.

UPDATE: Search for Raymond Stirling

The 84-year-old, who is frail and suffers from mild dementia, was last seen in the area at about 7.30 pm on Monday 15 January 2018. Police and his family are extremely concerned for his well-being.

Police seeking info after kitten injured in Gore

Police are investigating after a four-month-old kitten, called Hazel, was burnt in Gore on Tuesday 16 January 2018. The incident happened at an address on Sword Street between 7am and 1pm on Tuesday. Hazel suffered burns to her face and body, but is now at home with family and is expected to make a full recovery.

Think twice if sharing private information online

Anyone using dating sites and apps needs to be very careful when developing relationships online. It’s extremely difficult to permanently delete something from the internet. Once you have pushed send you no longer have control of what happens with the image or information you have shared.   

Police seeking witnesses in relation to Hawke’s Bay fatal crash

At approximately 10:00am on Wednesday 10 January,  a cyclist was fatally injured after being struck by a vehicle on State Highway 50A between Flaxmere Ave and Omahu Road, in Hawke’s Bay. The cyclist, a 70-year-old man from Hastings, was wearing distinctive yellow shoes, t-shirt and shorts. The Hawke’s Bay Serious Crash Unit are currently investigating the circumstances leading up to the fatal crash, and are seeking any witnesses who may have seen the cyclist prior to the collision.

Takaka woman charged after fatal Appleby crash

Nelson Police have today arrested and charged a 27-year-old Takaka woman in relation to a fatal crash on State Highway 60 at Appleby on New Year’s Eve. The woman was the driver of a Nissan four-wheel-drive that collided with a Suzuki sedan being driven by Mathew Peter Dow of Canterbury. Mr Dow died following the crash. The woman has been charged with causing the death of Mr Dow while under the influence of drugs, causing injury to passengers in her vehicle while under the influence of drugs and driving with an insecure load.

Name release – Sanson fatal crash

Police can now release the name of the person who died in a crash on State Highway One near Sanson, Manawatu, on Sunday 14 January 2018. He was 80-year-old Nedjeljko Glamuzina, also known as Ned, from Wellington. The Serious Crash Unit investigation is ongoing.

Fatal crash, Timaru

One person has died following a crash involving a car and a truck on the Timaru-Pareora Highway. Emergency Services were called to the crash between Half Chain Road and King Street at 2.25pm. The road is closed and is expected to remain so for the next few hours.

Woman missing in Eastbourne, Lower Hutt (+PHOTO)

Please attribute to Sergeant Matthew Wheble, SAR Coordinator: Police are looking for a woman missing in the Eastbourne and Days Bay area of Lower Hutt. 55-year-old Kerry Scott went for a walk from her home on Muritai Road in Eastbourne at around 9pm last night. Her partner called Police at around midnight reporting that she had not returned home.

Crash in Christchurch – Russley Road roundabout

Police and emergency services are in attendance at a crash, located at the roundabout at the intersection of Russley and Harewood Roads in Christchurch. A car and a motorbike have collided around 5:40pm. Injuries are unknown at this stage. Traffic is moving, but slower than normal, and Police ask that motorists avoid the area if possible.

Serious crash – Southern Motorway

Police are currently in attendance at a serious crash on the Southern Motorway, Auckland after a truck and motorcyclist collided. The Motorway is currently closed North Bound between Hingaia Road, Karaka and Takanini. The motorcyclist has serious injuries and will be transported to Middlemore Hospital.

Dunedin Police appeal for witnesses to incident with cyclist

Please attribute to Senior Sergeant Darryl Lennane: At around 3:30pm on Sunday 14 January 2018 a cyclist riding north on George Street, Dunedin was stopped at red traffic lights at the intersection with Saint Andrew Street, when he was hit from behind by a car. The tyre of the cyclist’s bike became stuck under the vehicle and he was attempting to remove it when the male driver of the vehicle began tooting his horn at him.

Matakana crash – update

Please attribute to a police spokesperson: Police and other emergency services remain at the site of a serious crash on Matakana Rd, Matakana. Based on further information from the scene, four people have been transported to hospital as a result of the crash, which involved a van and a truck and trailer unit.

Fatal crash at Beaumont, Clutha

A truck driver has died after his truck and trailer unit rolled at Beaumont, in the Clutha District. Emergency services were called to Rongahere Road, about 3km south of Beaumont, at 6:22am. The driver of the truck was trapped in the cab, and was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.

Update: Missing man, Hawke’s Bay

Inquiries are ongoing to locate missing French tourist Pierre Paludet, who was last seen with his car at a beach car park at Haumoana, Hawke’s Bay, on Friday morning. There is no physical search taking place today, unless new information comes to light through our inquiries. Police has received information from members of the public, via Facebook and in person at Police stations, and is following up this information.
